Assignment
#1:
The purpose
of this assignment is to introduce you to the software tools and hardware used
in this course. The main software tool is the Altera Quartus
II Computer Aided Design (CAD) system. You will need to install that software
on your computer before you can start this lab. The software will be
distributed to you in class. You will be learning to design hardware that will
go into a kind of programmable logic chip call a Field-Programmable Gate Array,
or FPGA. The FPGA chip is mounted on a board called the Altera DE2 Development
and Education board. This board will be used for the first six assignments and
possibly the final project of this course.
