Major: Power Electronics and Power Quality – GPA: 4/4 Thesis Topic: High Speed Silicon Controlled Rectifier Static Transfer Switch (STS) Supervisor: Prof. S.B. Dewan Summary of work: During my Ph.D. program, I designed, analyzed, simulated and built a prototype of a medium-voltage STS. The design included fast voltage-detection and thyristor gating strategies for an STS. The performance of the designed STS was also investigated under various loading/fault conditions, and corresponding detection/transfer time curves were derived. The design was then implemented on a DSP-based controller platform with TMSC40320 as the main processor.
Major: Power Electronics, G.P.A. 4.3/4.3 Thesis Topic: A Novel Zero-Current Switching Resonant dc-dc Converter Using IGBTs Supervisor: Dr. L. Chang Summary of Work: My M.Sc. research topic was the design, analysis, and implementation of a prototype of a novel zero-current switching power supply. The design offers high performance and efficiency and produces less electromagnetic interference compared to the existing methods.
